2009-2010 Letter From the President

Letter from the President

The BWL, founded in 1969, is dedicated to community service, mental growth, and developing friendships to encourage a spirit of helpfulness.

The league meets once a month during the school year, September through May, on the first Wednesday of each month. A social time with snacks begins at 9:00, the business meeting begins at 9:30, followed by a break, then a program of general interest is presented by an invited speaker. No meeting is convened if Beavercreek schools are closed for inclement weather. Babysitting is provided.

BWL is a non-partisan organization and as such does not endorse, support, or otherwise promote any candidate for office. We do encourage participation in the election process by sponsoring candidate and issue forums.

Established by-laws, executed by the board of directors and executive committee govern the conduct of business.

The board of directors and executive committee consist of the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, past president, and the chairs of programs, membership, and the scholarship luncheon and publicity.

The major civic endeavor each year is to provide scholarships to high school seniors and Women in Transition (WIT), those who have returned to college after a break due to personal reasons. This is funded through the annual scholarship luncheon.

At the end of each BWL year, a variety of requesting organizations receive donations, as approved by the board of directors and executive committee, from funds remaining in the treasury. Over $100,000 has been donated to scholarship charities.

Examples of other efforts we support individually or as a group are the Beavercreek Senior Center, AMBUCS, Family Violence Protection Center, Michael's House and Care House, Beavercreek Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Beavercreek Community Theatre, Caitlin's Smiles, and a myriad of others.

You will find that BLW is an excellent network to make and work with new friends,

support your community, and you'll learn and have fun doing it!

Jan McCluer
President, Beavercreek Women's League
