Col. Cassie Barlow, USAF Ret.
“Saluting Our Grandmas: Women of World War II”
presented by Col. Cassie Barlow and Sue Hill Norrod

Women have played a tremendous role in shaping history.  WWII is no exception.  When Cassie and Sue joined together for this project, they wanted to introduce readers to the many different faces of women and their service in the military.  Cassie is a 26-year veteran of the U. S Air Force, who worked her way up the ranks and whose leadership qualified her to be a base commander.  She has many experiences herself, but also shares many other Air Force stories.  Sue’s mother was a Navy WAVE during WWII.  Sue had heard so many stories of the brave young women who left their hometowns to “give back to the country.”  Her mother, Pauline, was from Dayton and attended boot camp at Hunter College in the Bronx.  She was a machinist mate at a naval air station in Memphis, TN.  During WWII, everyone was part of the war effort.  Women volunteered to be WAVES and WASPS.  Many were pilots and nurses.  When Cassie and Sue compiled all stories they new, it was a wealth of information -- enough for a book!  Therefore, they wrote “Salute Our Grandmothers”!   These are good stories that should be shared with the next generation.  During the Beavercreek Women’s League meeting, they will give us a glimpse of what is in the book.   They will also be available to answer questions.

Come and enjoy stories about military life.  Come to hear about a time when the country was united.  EVERYONE was involved in the war effort and felt good about their ability to contribute.

Morning coffee, tea, and water will be offered today at 9:00 a.m. The business meeting will be at 9:30 am; the speakers will begin at 10:30 am.
The meeting will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall, 3530 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek. Visitors and guests are always welcome!

The Beavercreek Women’s League (BWL) meets on the first Wednesday of the month from September through May at Peace Lutheran Church with a different program each month.  The mission of the group is to expand members’ knowledge of their community and beyond, to promote community service and to provide socialization.  Women of all ages and interests are welcome.  Questions can be e-mailed to beavercreekwomensleague@gmail.com or you can leave a message at 937-985-4BWL (4295).

NOTE: If Beavercreek City Schools are canceled due to inclement weather, the meeting is also canceled; however, school delays do not alter the planned meeting.
